If you are brand-new to the world of dancing, then you may be nervous about joining a beginner dance class. Whether you are learning the basics of hip hop or you are taking a ballet lesson for novices, there are some elements that you can look forward to at most beginner dance classes. Here are three things that you can expect from your first trip to the studio.

1) You'll learn something new.

Even if you have some prior experience with dance, you will still gain new knowledge in a beginner class. Most dance classes begin with a warm-up before shifting into floor work and a choreographed routine. Beginner classes focus on helping you build a good foundation for success in subsequent classes. You'll learn terminology, dance steps, and ways to move your body that may be unfamiliar to you. The pace at which you learn new moves will depend upon your specific teacher. Since every dance teacher uses different instructional techniques, you can expect to learn new insights about various dance moves. For example, one teacher may require repeated drills before starting a routine, but another teacher might choose to jump right into choreography. It's important to be open-minded about learning the new dance moves in order to get the most out of your class.

2) You'll meet fellow newcomers and feel camaraderie with other dancers.

Dance classes are typically conducted in a group setting. There will likely be 10-15 other students learning along with you. As a result, you'll meet like-minded people who are also interested in mastering the art of dance.
